Hunt Seat Opens Season with Win Over Lafayette

RINGOES, N.J. - The Delaware Valley Hunt Seat Equestrian Team opened its season with a seven-point victory over Lafayette College. The day was led by two upperclassmen, with junior Alicia Smoot earning High Point Rider honors and senior Paige Gatz taking Reserve High Point Rider.

Smoot won the Limit Fences class and finished second in Limit Flat to earn High Point Rider of the show. Gatz won her Open Flat class and placed third in Open Fences to earn Reserve High Point Rider.

Senior and junior captains Sophia Frisbie and Maggie Mitchell led the Aggies in the Intermediate division. Frisbie placed fifth in Intermediate Fences, while Mitchell took second in Intermediate Flat.

Smoot led the way in Limit Fences, but the Aggies added two more third-place finishes from junior Alexandra Adams and senior Rhiannon Swimelar, while junior Samantha Wills placed sixth.

Limit Flat proved to be another strong division for DelVal. Along with Smoot's second-place finish, seniors Emma Conway and Makenna Hummel each won their classes, while junior Nevaeh Anderson placed second.

Senior Kellyn Meadows led the Aggies in Novice with a second-place finish. Juniors Samantha Shwartz and Elsa Heacock followed with third- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

Sophomore Samuel Gant wrapped up the day with a third-place finish in Intro.

The Aggies return to competition on October 10 at Lafayette's home show at Top Notch Equestrian Center.
