GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team hit the road to start MAC Freedom play facing off against Arcadia on Wednesday evening. An early deficit proved too much for the Aggies to overcome dropping the contest 71-48.
Arcadia jumped out quickly, scoring the game's first 10 points before Whitney Evans converted a layup to put DelVal on the board. The Knights continued to build momentum, extending their advantage to 17 while holding the Aggies to just six first-quarter points, with Evans and Alexis Lease-Springer accounting for the DelVal scoring.
The Aggies found more of an offensive rhythm in the second quarter, trailing Arcadia by just one point over the 10-minute stretch, 11-10. Alexis Wright provided a spark, scoring five points in the frame to join Evans and Lease-Springer on the scoresheet. Arcadia, however, closed the half on a 7-0 run to carry a 34-16 lead into the break.
Evans set the tone to open the second half, scoring on a layup just 14 seconds in as DelVal looked to mount a comeback. The Aggies outscored the Knights 21-18 in the third quarter and cut into the deficit. Arcadia threatened to extend its lead to 20, but a made free throw and a three-pointer from Aubrey Ennis kept the margin at 19 midway through the period. Wright led the Aggies down the stretch, scoring seven points in the quarter as DelVal trimmed the deficit to 52-37 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Arcadia sealed the win in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Aggies 19-11. Evans went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the period, while Ava Irizzary, Wright and Lease-Springer each added two points for DelVal. Ciana Feliciano and Emma Miller chipped in one point apiece as the Knights closed out the 71-48 victory.
Evans paced the Aggies with a team-high 17 points, while Wright added her latest double-digit scoring performance of the season with 14 points. Miller led DelVal on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds.
Delaware Valley returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when the Aggies host DeSales at James Work Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom matchup.
