Women’s Basketball Battles Until the Bitter End at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Delaware Valley erased a nine-point third-quarter deficit and pulled even with 23 seconds remaining, but late foul trouble proved costly as Lebanon Valley capitalized at the line to escape with a 54–53 victory.

After falling behind early, Delaware Valley found a spark midway through the opening quarter as Whitney Evans attacked the rim for a momentum-shifting layup, setting up a Juliana Harris triple that briefly pushed the Aggies in front. Lebanon Valley quickly responded, rattling off an 8–0 run highlighted by a deep three to seize a seven-point advantage. DelVal closed the quarter strong, however, as Harris finished inside and Alexis Lease-Springer buried a three in the final 1:30 to trim the deficit to 14–12.

Evans picked up right where she left off, drilling a three just 40 seconds into the second quarter to give the Aggies a one-point edge. LVC answered with a decisive 9–0 run over the next six minutes to reclaim control and build an eight-point cushion. After a brief scoring lull, Emma Miller converted an and-one to ignite a 7–2 DelVal surge, cutting the gap to three. The Flying Dutchmen had the final say before halftime, scoring with one second remaining to take a 27–22 lead into the break.

Back-to-back buckets from Alexis Lease-Springer pulled the Aggies within one before Whitney Evans took over, knocking down both free throws and finishing a floater to briefly give DelVal the lead, 30–29. Lebanon Valley responded with a decisive 12–2 run to close the quarter, pushing its advantage to a game-high nine. Alexis Wright stopped the bleeding with a turnaround jumper in the closing seconds, trimming the deficit to seven and setting the stage for the final period.

Wright again sparked DelVal to open the fourth, scoring to fuel a quick 7–2 run that cut the margin to one bucket just two minutes in. After LVC connected from deep, the Aggies endured a brief scoring drought before Wright broke through with a driving layup, igniting a late 12–7 surge. Wright's finish with 23 seconds remaining knotted the game at 53, but late foul trouble sent the Flying Dutchmen to the line in the final seconds, where they secured the go-ahead point and a 54–53 win.

Evans led the Aggies in scoring with a team-high 17 points followed by Wright with her 15th double-digit scoring game of the season netting 11 points. Ciana Feliciano and Lease-Springer led the battle at the boards with six rebounds apiece.

DelVal is back in action this Wednesday, Jan. 28 when they host Misericordia at 6 p.m. at home in James Work Gymnasium.
