Women’s Basketball Tops King’s at Home

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team earned its second straight conference victory on its home court, defeating King's College 71-64 on Saturday afternoon.

DelVal opened the game on an 8-2 run behind Alexis Wright and Whitney Evans to take an early six-point lead. King's responded with a three-pointer to even the score at 8-8 midway through the quarter. A jumper from Wright and a 1-of-2 trip to the free-throw line by Ciana Feliciano allowed the Aggies to maintain a slim edge, closing the opening period ahead 11-10.

The Monarchs connected on back-to-back threes early in the second quarter to take a five-point lead, 16-11. Alexis Lease-Springer sparked a DelVal response, hitting a jumper to begin a 13-0 run that pushed the Aggies out to an eight-point advantage. King's answered once again from beyond the arc, draining two threes as part of a 9-0 spurt to regain a one-point lead, 25-24. The back-and-forth continued late in the half as Evans knocked down a three and Payton Witman added a layup, sending DelVal into the break with a 29-25 lead.

Evans and Feliciano fueled a strong start to the second half, combining for nine points in the opening two minutes to give the Aggies a double-digit advantage, 38-27. King's slowly chipped away, cutting the deficit to five on three separate occasions before a three-pointer made it a one-possession game at 48-46. Wright answered with a personal 7-5 run to keep DelVal in front, 53-51, heading into the final quarter.

Julianna Harris opened the fourth quarter with a jumper to ignite a 6-0 Aggies run and extend the lead to eight. The Monarchs responded with seven straight points to pull within one, 61-60, but DelVal took control down the stretch. Feliciano was perfect from the free-throw line in the final four minutes, leading a decisive 10-4 closing run to secure the 71-64 victory.

Wright and Evans each scored 20-plus points in the win. Wright led the Aggies with 23 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, while Evans added 21 points and a team-best four steals. Feliciano also finished in double figures with 14 points.

The Aggies return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21, when they travel to Stevens for a 7 p.m. conference matchup.
