HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Delaware Valley women's basketball team trailed Stevens by 21 heading into the half, but the Aggies came out of the break outscoring the Ducks by double to cut the deficit down to just 10 in the third quarter. Stevens remained steadfast outscoring DelVal by just three points in the final frame to take home the 65-50 victory.
The Aggies now fall to 3-15 on the season and 1-6 in MAC Freedom play. Stevens improvise to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Ducks stuffed the Aggies offense through the first five minutes building up a 10-point advantage.
Ava Irizarry checked into the game and immediately made a splash sinking the three to put DelVal on the board.
Aubrey Ennis followed it up with the turnaround jumper in the paint to cut the deficit in half, 10-5, with 3:49 left in the first quarter. Stevens went on to score six unanswered to end the frame with an 11-point lead, 16-5.
Ennis opened the second quarter with the jumper to cut the deficit back down to single digits. The Ducks' strong performance from beyond the arc pushed them to an 18-6 run over the next five minutes creating a 21-point lead, 34-13. DelVal was held to just four points until
Haley Keenan launched the final shot from beyond the arc at the buzzer to bring the deficit to 21 at the half, 42-21.
Keenan came out of the half strong mounting a solo 6-4 run for the Aggies through the first four minutes of the second half to bring the deficit down to 19, 46-27. Ennis, Keenan and
Ciana Feliciano combined for nine unanswered points, highlighted by a 7-of-8 performance from the line, to cut the Ducks lead to just 10, 46-36. Stevens held a narrow 5-3 advantage in the final minute of the third quarter to increase its lead to 12, 51-39.
Two scoreless minutes started the final frame before the Aggies sent Stevens to the line shooting 2-of-2 to start a back-and-forth scoring effort with baskets from both
Payton Witman and
Jayla Rivera. Another 100% performance from the line sparked a 6-0 run for the Ducks to increase their lead to 17, 60-43, with 4:24 on the clock. A 2-of-2 effort from the line for Keenan ended the scoring run and kicked off a solo six-point performance for the graduate student to cut the deficit down to 15 to end the game, 65-15.
Keenan led the Aggies in points and rebounds tallying 26 points and pulling down 10 boards. Ennis also ended the game with double-digit scoring putting up 12 points. Keenan also led the steals and blocks stat lines with five and two, respectively.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 1 when they host Misericordia at James Work Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
