WILLIAMSPORT, PA- The Delaware Valley men's wrestling team traveled to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to compete on day one of the 2024 NCAA Division III Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Lycoming College. Delaware Valley finished day one of the Southeast Regional Championship currently sitting in third place out of twenty-two teams within the region. Five Aggies advanced to tomorrow's semi-final round, while three additional Aggies advanced to day two in the wrestle-back round. All eight DelVal men's wrestlers have guaranteed a top-eight placement finish in the Southeast Region.
Returning NCAA National Qualifier Jacob Blair entered the weekend as the #1 seed at 133lbs. After receiving a first-round bye, Jacob Blair earned a pinfall over Dylan Coward of Marymount. In the quarter-final round, Blair would win by technical fall over AJ Orlando of Averett. Second consecutive year in a row the sophomore earned a trip to the semi-finals of the Southeast Region. Tomorrow morning Blair will match up against the #4 seed Zach Beckner of Ferrum in the semifinals.
At 165lbs, Adam Coleman made it to the semifinals as the #7 seed in the weight class. After receiving a first-round bye, Coleman earned a pinfall over Mateo Villalobos of Ferrum In the quarter-final round, Coleman would defeat the #2 seed Christopher Stathopoul of Stevens by decision. The junior will match up tomorrow in the semi-final round against #3 David Reid of Roanoke.
First-year Nicholas Hall entered the tournament as the #2 seed at 184lbs. After receiving a first-round bye, Hall earned a quick pinfall over James Doliscar of Gettysburg. In the quarter-final round, Hall would defeat #7 Vincenzo Corvetto of Roanoke by a 13-6 decision. Hall will compete in the semi-final round tomorrow against #3 George Moseley of Averett.
In the 197lb weight division, senior Dan Eckley advanced to the semi-final round as the #8 seed. After receiving a first-round bye, Eckley earned a pin-fall over George Vrachnos of Shenandoah. In the quarter-final round, Eckley would avenge a quarter-final loss from last season's regional tournament as he defeated #1 Mauro Pellot of Alvernia via injury default. Eckley will face off tomorrow against #4 Lorenzo Pellot of Roanoke in the semis.
Sophomore Logan Flynn entered the weekend as the #3 seed at HWT. After receiving a first-round bye, Flynn earned a pin-fall over Porter Trapp of Southern Virginia. In the quarter-final round, Flynn defeated Robbie West of Lycoming by a 15-3 major decision. Flynn will compete tomorrow against #2 Trent Ragland of Averett in the semi-finals. This will be a rematch of the Penn Tech Invite finals where Raagland defeated Flynn by decision.
First-year Malik Asfour entered the tournament as the #7 seed in the 125lb division. After receiving a first-round bye, Malik Asfour would win his pre-quarterfinal by tech fall over Connor Kerwin of Wilkes. Malik Asfour would go on to drop an 8-3 decision to returning NCAA All-American #2 Mason Barrett of Averett. Malik Asfour would respond in the wrestlebacks with a victory over Ronald Vernem of Marymount by technical fall. Asfour will compete tomorrow morning against #3 Kaden Majcher of Lycoming.
At 141 lbs, Ryan Arndt entered the tournament unseeded in a loaded 141lb bracket featuring three former All-Americans. Ryan Arndt lost his first match of the day by pin-fall to returning NCAA All-American #5 Luke Kowalski of Gettysburg. Arndt would respond with an 8-2 decision over Cooper Gilham of Lycoming and a pinfall over Tyler Debnar of St. Vincent. The junior would pick up another win in the wrestlebacks as he defeated Skyler Hickman of W&L by a closely contested 12-9 decision. Arndt will compete tomorrow morning in a rematch against #5 Luke Kowalski of Gettysburg
Sophomore Luke Moore came into the weekend for the Aggies as the #8 seed at 174lbs. Moore started the morning with a pin-fall win over Nick Costello of King's. In the pre-quarterfinal round, Luke Moore would earn another pin-fall over Melquan Warren of Wilkes. In the quarterfinals, Moore dropped a 7-2 decision to #1 Colby Morris of Waynesburg. The sophomore would bounce back with a technical fall over Tyson Hoopes of Southern Virginia. Tomorrow morning Moore will face off against #5 Xavier Preston of Roanoke.
Junior Greg Croce went 0-2 at 149lbs and first-year Nicholas Delorenzo went 1-2 at 157lbs. Both wrestlers did not qualify for day two of the Southeast Regions.
