Collegeville, Pa- Delaware Valley men's wrestling travels to Collegeville, Pa. to take on the Golden Bears of Ursinus in a dual meet. DelVal Men's Wrestling is 7-2 on the season with the only two losses coming to #7 Stevens and #25 Muhlenburg. Delaware Valley has currently two wrestlers nationally ranked and eight wrestlers ranked in the Southeast Region. The Aggies are coming off of a 37-15 home dual meet win over Western New England last weekend. With the MAC Championships taking place in two days, the Aggies make a stop to Ursinus College to face off against the 5-2 Golden Bears. Delaware Valley have won the pervious two dual meets against Ursinus, including a victory last season at home in Doylestown.
At 125lb, first year
Malik Asfour gets the Aggies on the board as he defeats Franco Mazza by a. 14-0 major decision. Asfour is currently ranked eight in the Southeast Region at 149lbs, and has earned bonus points in thirteen of his sixteen wins.
At 133lb, Jagger Clapsdale defeats first year
Ryan Mansueto by pinfall to give the Bears a two point lead in the dual meet. Clapsdale was trailing 3-0 early in the first but was able to secure the come from behind pin fall.
At 141lb, sophomore Sean O'Toole earned a 10-2 major decision over Andrew Schaen in an action-packed match to allow the Aggies to retake the lead. O'Toole improves to 8-6 on the season and is now 3-1 for the Aggies in dual meets.
At 149lb, Dante Monaco defeated
Mike Rubino by a 7-2 decision. Monaco is ranked eight in the Midwest region for the Golden Bears at 149lbs.
The Bears would once again retake the lead as Nick Lattanze defeats first year
Hayden Mann in a razor thin 7-4 match. Mann was in on a shot in the closing seconds, but Lattanze was able to hold on for the win.
The turning point of the dual meet came at 165lbs when
Joseph McCullough matched up against Shawn Marchesano. McCullough would take a 1-0 lead early on following an illegal slam by Shawn Marchesano. Moments later, both wrestlers were in on a scramble, where McCullough but Marchesano on his back and secured the pin fall victory. The Sophomore adds another marquee win to his resume, as he came into todays match with two wins over nationally ranked opponents.
Luke Moore would keep the momentum going as he pins Anthony Cerulli as Delaware Valley would go on to a 20-12 lead. Moore is ranked fifth in the Southeast region and is the team leader in pins this season for the Aggies.
Needing a spark, Ursinus would bump their lineup at 184lbs when theu would match Sean Cowan against
Nicholas Hall. Cowan is ranked fifth in the Mideast Region at 174lbs and Hall is ranked third in the Southeast egion at 184lbs. In a 1-1 chess match, Cowan would land the late take down to keep the Golden Bears alive.
Ursinus would then bump up 184lb Max Borton to 197lbs to take on
Dan Eckley. Another massive bout as Borton is ranked fourth in the Midwest Region at 184lbs and Eckley is a perfect 8-0 on the season. Borton would go on to edge Eckley with a decision victory and the match would come down to HWT as Delaware Valley took a 24-22 lead. Ursinus lost a team point at the conclusion of the the 197lb bout.
With the match on the line, the Aggies would getb a big win from nationalluy ranked
Logan Flynn as he defeated Jake Ahmed 11-4. Delaware Valley won the dual meet 27-22 over Ursinus.
The Aggies will be back in action at the MAC Championships hosted by York on Saturday, January 20th.
