Delaware Valley Women's Wrestling Defeats Western New England On Senior Night

Doylestown, Pa- Delaware Valley Women's Wrestling hosted the Golden Bears of Alvernia on Saturday, January 13th on senior night. DelVal Women's Wrestling honored their lone senior and captain, Bridgette Schoultz. Schoultz is a 2x NWCA National Qualifier and is the leader in wins for Delaware Valley women's wrestling program history. The Aggies entered tonight's match up with a record of 9-4, coming off victories over D'youville and Marymount .The Golden Bears traveled all the way from Springfield, Massachusetts and entered tonight's match up with a record of 7-3. In a back and fourth match up, the Aggies would pick up key pin fall victories late in the match to defeat Western New England 27-22

After Jesenia Camargo forfeit victory for at 101lbs, the Golden Bears would start things off with decision win for Gianna Hernandez over Meriah Koster at 109lbs.  At 116lbs,Victoria Orender picked up a quick pin fall over Josey Wehr to give Western New England the lead. DelVal would counter with a pin fall of their own as Bridgette Schoultz earns a pin on her senior night over Janieliz Cotto. The Golden Bears would go on a run through 130lbs-143lbs as Western New England notched two pins and a tech to take the lead once again. The turning point came it 155 lbs as Gabby Reid had the gym rocking as she Gabriella Reid overcame a 2-0 deficit and tied the score and pinned Kendall Branchaud at 155lbs. The dual meet would come down to the 170 lb bout to determine a winner and Kathryn Martin notched a first period pin over Mikayla Maloy to clinch the win for the Aggies. Sophia Pollack earn a forfeit at 191 lbs to give the Aggies a 27-22 victory.

The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Ursinus to compete at the Will Abele Invitational.
