ROANOKE (Va.) -- Delaware Valley University first-year men's wrestler Jacob Blair competed at the 2023 National Championship tournament and finished with one win and two losses in the 125-pound bracket. 

The rookie from Muncy, Pa. qualified for the national tournament with a runner-up finish at the Southeast Regional championships two weeks ago. Blair entered the regional tournament unseeded and began his run with an upset-victory over top-seeded, and returning All-American, Riley Parker from Washington & Jefferson. He finished that tournament 3-1 and upped his season record to 20-11 heading into the national championships. 

On Friday, Blair was the first match of the day and was pitted against Gavin Bradley of Castleton University. Bradley got the first takedown in the opening period and kept Blair on the mat to earn riding time and take a 2-0 lead into the second. Bradley started the second period on the bottom and quickly escaped to make it 3-0. Blair got on the board with a takedown, but another escape by Bradley make it 4-2 after two. Blair escaped from the bottom to start the third, but a late takedown by Bradley, and riding time, cemented a 7-3 setback for Blair. 

In his second match of the day, Blair faced Terry Adams of Ursinus College. The bout was tied 2-2 after two periods, as the wrestlers battled. Blair scored the lone point in the third and held Adams off the board to stave off elimination with a 3-2 win by decision. 

The win advanced Blair to the evening session where he met Joey Lamparelli of Muhlenberg. The two 125-pounders battled to a 1-1 tie after three periods and sent the bout to overtime. In the sudden-victory period, Lamparelli got inside for the first takedown to earn the victory and eliminate Blair. 

Jacob Blair was the only Aggie to advance to the 2023 National Championship tournament and concludes a successful season for DelVal men's wrestling.
