Frostburg, MD - Delaware Valley women's wrestling traveled all the way to Maryland on Wednesday night to take on the Bobcats of Frostburg state. First dual meet of the season for the Aggies as they opened up the season only a couple of days at the Princeton Open. Delaware Valley would go on and defeat Frostburg State by a score of 35-15, earning them their first dual meet win of the 2023-2024 season.
Prior to the match, Maria Hiles of FSU defeated
Kathryn Martin by pinfall in the lone exhibition match of the night. After a double forfeit at 101lbs to start the match,
Jesenia Camargo would pick up a forfeit win for the Aggies at 109 lbs. The first official match of the night matched up first year
Josey Wehr against Aurora Walters of FSU at 116lbs.
Josey Wehr would start things off for the Aggies with a bang as she tossed her opponent to her back and secured the the pinfall victory. First collegiate win for Wehr as the Aggies would take a 15-0n lead. Two time returning national qualifier
Bridgette Schoultz would continue the momentum for DelVal as she defeated Jada Fowler by pinfall at 123lbs. Frostburg would answer with a pinfall victory of their own when Lillie Costilla earned a pin over
Carmela Velasco at 130lbs. After an injury default victory for
Layla Weiss at 136lbs, followed by two Aggies forfeits at 143lbs for Lily Kinder and 155lbs for
Kathryn Martin. First year
Gabriella Reid would build off her success from the Princeton Open with a win by fall over Sarah Sunday at 170 lbs. In the final match of the night, Catherine Dutton would defeat
Sophia Pollack by fall at 191lbs.
The Aggies would go on to defeat the Bobcats by a score of 35-15 and would earn their first win of the season. Delaware Valley Women's Wrestling will be back in action this Sunday when they compete at the Adrian College Invite.
