Rigo and Wright Lead Aggies in Loss to Messiah

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Kendra Rigo and Alexis Wright both recorded double-digit scoring for the Delaware Valley women's basketball team in the opening game of the season at Messiah. The Aggies dropped the contest to the Falcons 70-47.

The Aggies let Messiah pull away with a seven-point lead through the first four minutes of the first quarter when Wright put up her first points of the game sinking it from the arc followed up by another deep ball from Haley Keenan to cut the deficit to one, 9-8. Kennan and Wright paired up again for four points to give DelVal its first lead of the contest, 12-9. The Falcons held a 10-3 edge over the Aggies through the rest of the frame to take a 21-15 lead into the second quarter.

Rigo got the scoring going with a three-pointer 11 seconds in to cut the deficit to three, 21-18. The teams traded baskets through the ensuing three minutes until Messiah started on a 9-0 run to take a 12-point lead, 34-22. A foul by the Falcons sent Wright to the line to stop the bleeding sinking both free throws to make it a 10-point deficit, 34-24. The Aggies held a 6-5 edge in the remainder of the frame to head into the half trailing by nine, 39-30.

Scoring slowed for the Aggies in the second half shifting the momentum in favor of the Falcons. DelVal sunk 6-of-23 from the field 1-of-4 from the long range and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe to put up just 17 points in the second half while Messiah put up 31 points to take the game 70-47.
