EAST STROUDSBURG (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley women's wrestling team competed over the weekend at the PA Collegiate Open at East Stroudsburg University. Six Aggie wrestlers competed with four placing in the top six and earning a spot on the podium.
At 123 pounds, returning 2022 NCWA National Qualifier, BriDgette Shoultz received a bye in the first round. She advanced to the quarterfinals and faced off against Jayden Bazemore of Gannon University. Bazemore, who is currently ranked fourth in the region at 130 pounds, recorded the win by fall in that bout. Shoultz would bounce back and win her next match by fall over Carmela Cancelmo of East Stroudsburg University. In the third place match, the senior captain faced off against familiar foe, Kalli Roskos of Ursinius College. These competitors have met three times prior to this weekend's showdown with Shoultz getting the upper hand in two of the three matches. Shoultz would again defeat Roskos, this time by a 6-2 decision to earn third place.
First-year Olivia Kinder started off strong with a first-round win by pin over Stephanie Floor of Gannon in the 143-pound division. She would lose her quarterfinal matchup by fall to top seeded Zoe Gress of East Stroudsburg. Kinder would respond with a pinfall victory over of Cedar Crest College's Zakiyyah Sabir to advance to the third place matchup against Lili Ujfalvi of Gannon. Kinder would go on to lose by fall, granting her a fourth-place finish.
Gigi Lee and Nicole Shisler both competed in the 150-pound weight division. Lee finished 1-2 on the day and placed fourth. Shisler dropped both of her matches on the day and place fifth.
Ciara Jaynes and Makenna Cooper competed at the 170lb weight class. Both Jaynes and Cooper would drop both of their matches on the day.
The Aggies will be in action again on Saturday, February 4 against Alvernia University, Cedar Crest College and Ursinus College in a quad-meet held at Ursinus College.
