Coleman and Williams Lead Men’s Wrestling at Ken Ober Memorial Tournament

ELIZABETHTOWN (Pa.) - The Delaware Valley men's wrestling team was in action at the Ken Ober Memorial Tournament at Elizabethtown University on Saturday. The Aggies finished the day with six wrestlers placing in the top six, including 165 pounder Adam Coleman and heavyweight Austin Williams both finishing in second place.

 

Sophomore Adam Coleman started off the day strong with two wins by decision. In the semifinals, Coleman would pull off a 6-0 decision victory against Alan DeVries of York College, earning the Sophomore his first ever tournament finals appearance of his collegiate career. Coleman would go on to lose his finals match by fall to Alexander LaVeck of McDaniel College.

 

Williams started off the day with a win by medical forfeit and a win by fall. In the semi-finals, Williams earned a 9-4 decision victory over Mason Sprinkel of Norwich University. The finals would be a matchup of two nationally ranked wrestlers with Williams facing off against Dylan Waller of Elizabethtown College. These two wrestlers met up in the quarterfinals of the Racic Rumble earlier on In the year, where Waller won by a score of 12-4. Williams would end up losing the rematch to Waller by fall.

 

First-year heavyweight Logan Flynn received a bye in the first round before going on to win his next two matches by fall and major decision. In the semi-finals, Flynn would lose a razor-thin 3-1 decision in overtime to the eventual champion, Dylan Waller of Elizabethtown. Flynn would drop the third place bout by a 6-3 decision to Mason Sprinkel of Norwich.

 

At 197 pounds, junior Isaiah Johnson received a bye in the first and second round, then proceeded to win his quarterfinal bout by a score of 3-1. In the semifinals, Johnson would lose by fall to 2022 NCAA All American Cameron Farrow of York. In the 3rd/4th match, Johnson would be defeated by a score of 15-4 to Keevon Berry of Centenary.

 

Two first year wrestlers, Kamrin O'Neill (149 pounds) and Darrale Barrett (165 pounds) both recorded a sixth-place finish. O'Neill went 3-1 on the day with two technical falls and a pin. He would go on to medical forfeit the fifth place bout. Barrett went 3-2 on the day with two pins and a major decision.

 

First year wrestlers Gavin Richard (133 pounds), Devin Horton (141 pounds), Artem Reichert (141 pounds) and Taylor Weaver (141 pounds) picked up multiple wins in the tournament as well. The Aggies placed fifth out of ten teams in the unofficial team scoring with 89.0 team points.

 

Del Val will be back in action Tuesday, January 31st in a dual meet against the Scranton Royals in Scranton, Pennsylvania
