Aggies Squander Halftime Lead in Loss to King’s

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- After the Delaware Valley women's basketball team held a 31-24 lead at halftime, the visiting King's Monarchs outscored the Aggies 15-6 in the third quarter and 31-17 in the second half, as the Aggies fell 55-48 on their home court.

King's took an early 5-4 lead after two minutes of play. The Aggies regained the lead after two free throws from Sophie Chevres a minute later. Haley Keenan, Alexis Wright and Maisie Neuber each added buckets to cap off an 8-0 run for the Aggies. DelVal took a 16-7 lead into the second quarter after forcing King's into 27% shooting over the first ten minutes.

The Aggies went up 20-10 two minutes into the second quarter before King's responded with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to five. After an Aggie timeout, Haley Keenan knocked down a triple followed by a pair of free throws from Alexis Wright before Kennan made another bucket to cap off a 7-0 to put DelVal up 27-15. King's held steady and knocked down two straight three pointers to close the gap to six before trailing by seven at the break.

King's stayed in the game in the first half with the longball, as they hit 4-of-9 three pointers while the Aggies went just 1-for-9.

The Monarchs struck first in the third, putting together a 6-0 run over four minutes to trim the Aggie lead to 31-30. Maisie Neuber ended that run with a three pointer. The Monarchs cut it back to two and Jenna Schiessl hit one of her two three pointers to push the lead back to five with 4:30 left in the third. That would be the last points of the quarter for the Aggies, as King's went on a 7-0 run to take a 39-37 lead into the fourth.

After Taylor Richardson evened up the score with a layup early in the fourth, the Monarchs rattled off ten straight points to hold their largest lead of the game at 49-39 with 5:43 left to play. The Aggies were able to briefly trim the lead to five with 20 seconds left, but King's held on for the 53-46 victory.

Maisie Neuber and Haley Keenan each finished tied for a game-high 12 points. Neuber added a game-high nine rebounds while Kennan added a game-high five steals. Alexis Wright was the third Aggie in double figures with ten points.

DelVal will return to action on Wednesday, January 25th at Stevens for an 8 p.m. start.
