ALLENTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's wrestling team won 2-of-3 duals at the Muhlenberg quad meet on Saturday. The Aggies defeated Brockport 24-10, then took down Alfred State 28-13, before dropping a narrow decision to the host Mules, 20-19.
First-year 125-pounder Jacob Blair and sophomore 141-pounder Malachi Harvey led the squad with 3-0 days while sophomore Greg Croce (157 lb.), sophomore Ryan Arndt (133 lb.), first-year Joseph McCullough (165 lb.), and first-year Luke Moore (174 lb.) all won two matches.
Blair, the 17th ranked wrestler in the region at 125 pounds, began his day with a 12-7 decision over Isiah Jackson of Brockport to get the Aggies started. DelVal raced out to a 15-4 lead by winning four of the first five bouts and cruised to the win by winning 7-of-10, all by decision aside from one medical forfeit at 141 pounds.
Consecutive wins by fall from McCullough at 165, and Moore at 174, lifted DelVal to a 22-7 lead over Alfred State after seven bouts. Harvey also earned bonus points for the team with a 12-3 major decision at 141 pounds. Senior heavyweight Austin Williams sealed the 28-18 win with his eighth pin of the season at heavyweight.
In the Aggies' final match of the day, they jumped out to a 9-0 lead thanks to wins by decision from Blair, Arndt, and Harvey. Muhlenberg pulled to within two after a decision and a tech. fall before McCullough earned a major to make it 13-7 DelVal with four bouts to go. The Mules took the next three matches with a pair of decisions and a win by fall to pull away 20-13. The home team forfeited the final bout to end the day.
