DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Delaware Valley University head men's wrestling coach Andrew Taylor announced his coaching staff for the upcoming 2022-23 season that includes returning alumni Kordell Rush '20, and newcomers Zack Trampe, Wayne Stinson, Rick Rappo, and Chris Gambino.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have brought in the caliber of coaches we did this off-season," said coach Taylor. "Not only do we return Coach Rush, but we also bring on four coaches with Division I wrestling experience in Zack Trampe, Wayne Stinson, Rick Rappo, and Chris Gambino."
The new staff has combined for four trips to the NCAA Division I tournament, three trips to the Division III national tournament, eight high school state medals, and three high school state championships.
Trampe was a state champion at Council Rock South and a three-time place winner, including runner-up as a sophomore. A two-time Bucks County Wrestler of the Year, Trampe was a top-100 overall recruit out of high school and earned two All-Pennsylvania All-Academic Team honors.
"When you have an opportunity to bring in a young coach like Zack, you have to attack it," said Taylor. "He is a District 1 guy who had an outstanding high school career at Council Rock South, and then collegiately, he found success competing at the highest level during his time at Binghamton. He will elevate not just our lighter weights, but the entire room with his mentality and skillset."
Stinson, a native of Wrightstown, New Jersey, won a NJSIAA state championship title, was a four-time District 25 champion, and four-time Region 7 finalist who compiled a 140-20 record with 80 career falls in high school. He went on to wrestle at Division I Rider over 40 matches.
Coach Taylor spoke about the wealth of knowledge and coaching experience Stinson brings amongst other attributes. "Coach Stinson spent four years as a high school head coach in District 1 as well and also helps coach at one of the more successful Pennsylvania wrestling clubs in Apache. Being a four-year starter at Rider will help create a more competitive environment in our wrestling room. He will have a big part in developing our middle and upper weights where we have a lot of young talent ready for growth."
Rappo and Gambino will serve as volunteer assistant coaches and both bring more Division I experience to the wrestling room.
"You know your program is headed in the right direction when you have as strong of a volunteer staff willing to help in any facet as DelVal wrestling now has," said Taylor. "Rappo is another legend in District 1 wrestling who went on to compete at the highest level both athletically and academically at the University of Pennsylvania."
Taylor continued, "Coach Gambino brings wrestling experience from the NC State wrestling room and coaching experience from Washington State NCWA Wrestling. He will be be pivotal in a lot of our strength and conditioning development, as well as working with athletes one on one academically. I look forward to seeing Chris build a rapport with our student-athletes."
The Aggies will look to build upon last season's 4-4 dual record and the sixth place showing at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships in Coach Taylor's second full season at the helm.
