MAHWAH (Nj.) – Senior Lauren Yost earned a second place finish in the women's javelin throw while Dontae Mason and Brandon Perot earned top-5 finishes on the men's side to lead the Delaware Valley University track and field teams at the two-day event hosted by Ramapo College.
The men's team finished 12th out of 21 teams with 17 points and the women took 14th out of 22 teams with 12 points.
In the men's long jump, Mason finished top-3 out of 17 athletes with a leap of 6.26 meters, just half a meter off the first place mark. Moses Madison earned a top-10 finish in the same event with a mark of 5.89 meters to earn eighth.
Perot led the men's side in the field events with a fifth place showing in the shot put as he finished with a personal-best of 41.84 meters. Through his first five attempts, Perot was below 40 meters, but his final launch moved him into the top-5.
Perot and Javon Speid threw in the men's shot put in a field of 18 and each finished inside the top-10 with marks of 11.47 meters and 10.76 meters, respectively.
Madison was the Aggie men's top finisher in the 400-meter with a time of 54.1 seconds to earn 18th out of 40 competitors. Ethan Berberabe ran a 58.46 and Barry Turner finished at 1:02.91 in the same event.
First-year Billy Mayer competed for the first time in the men's javelin and reached 35.6 meters to earn a top-10 finish out of 16 athletes.
On Friday, Carter Owen competed in the men's 10K for the first time and posted a time of 35 minutes, 15.21 seconds to earn fifth out of seven.
On the women's side, Yost led the squad with a second place finish in the women's javelin throw. She reached 26.8 meters, a personal-best, on her second throw.
Sophomore Kait Jones reached 31.75 meters in the women's hammer throw to earn a sixth place showing out of 15 competitors. She also competed in the shot put and reached 8.93 meters to take 18th out of 27.
On Friday, in the women's 5K, sophomore Alyssa Blackmon finished in 19:35.97 to earn eighth overall out of 16 student-athletes.
Sophomore Chante Newman competed in the women's 200 meter and posted a 30.38 second finish.
