Schoultz Competes At National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships

ADRIAN (Mi.) – Junior 123-pounder Bridgette Schoultz represented the Delaware Valley University women's wrestling team at the 2022 Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at Adrian College this weekend.

Schoultz became the second national qualifier in Aggie women's wrestling history, after Erin Murray broke the seal a year ago.

It did not take long for Schoultz to etch her name in the record books again as she needed just 51 seconds to earn the program's first ever victory at the National Tournament. Schoultz faced Merci Jessop of Elmira College in her first bout, a familiar foe from Elmira College who she defeated already in the duos only other meeting this season. In the first 20 seconds of this match, Schoultz executed a hip toss to get Jessop to the mat and quickly rolled her to her back for four points. Schoultz continued to work her position and soon got Jessop's shoulders to the mat for the win by fall.

The historic victory propelled Schoultz into round two where she met the second ranked wrestler in the nation, Marissa Gallegos of Colorado Mesa. Gallegos got in on Schoultz early and used a leg roll to get on the board, 4-0. Schoultz battled but two more takedowns by Gallegos in the first period gave her a 10-0 tech. fall victory over Schoultz.

The setback dropped Schoultz into the consolation bracket where she was matched up against Caitlyn Thorne of McKendree University. Schoultz was aggressive early as the two wrestlers spent the first 30 seconds feeling each other out. Soon after, Thorne got in on the leg of Schoultz and caught her in a cradle to secure a pin.

Schoultz finished the tournament 1-2 and earned three team points for the Aggies, the first points at a National Tournament in DelVal women's wrestling history. Schoultz finished the year with seven wins and will look to return to the national stage during her senior campaign next year.
