DOYLESTOWN (PA) ---The Delaware Valley women's wrestling team hosted their first home match of the season against Ferrum College and came away with a 26-8 victory while honoring its two seniors on senior day, Erin Murray and Ashley Cravo.
The Aggies won the first three bouts against the Panthers by forfeit before taking the mat at 130 pounds. There, DelVal junior Bridgette Schoultz took on Ferrum's Katrina Anderson, with Anderson coming away with a 10-0 technical fall in the second period.
At 155 pounds, Gigi Lee picked up a big win by fall for the Aggies, as she dominated from the start and built a 2-0 lead, 30 seconds in. With an 8-0 advantage late in the first period, Lee worked Ferrum's Ryann Tyree to her back and in the win by fall at 2:48 to extend the team's lead to 25-4.
The final bout of the match was at 170 with Ferrum's Gabby Mendoza taking on DelVal's Caira Jaynes. Mendoza scored first and eventually took a 6-0 lead early in the first period. Jaynes fought back and used a hip toss to score four points and make it a 6-4 match after one period. Mendoza scored four points with a throw 21 seconds into the second period to take a 10-4 lead. She was able to hold off Jaynes the rest of the way and earned a 14-4 technical fall at 4:21 to seal the match.
DelVal will head to Lock Haven on Saturday, February 12th for duals against Lock Haven and Hiram College.
