WILLIAMSPORT (Pa.) – Senior Youssef Ait Boulahri finished as the runner-up in the 174-pound bracket at the 2022 NCAA Southeast Regional tournament and the Delaware Valley University men's wrestling team finished 15th out of 20 teams with 36 points.
Ait Boulahri was the team's top finisher and qualified for the National Championship tournament for the first time in his career. In his last regional tournament in 2020, Ait Boulahri wrestled in the heavyweight bracket and finished fifth overall.
Coming into today, Ait Boulahri was 2-0 in the tournament and needed just one win to advance to the semi-finals and secure his national championship berth. He did just that with a convincing 4-1 decision over Kade Kravits of King's College. Battling illness, Ait Boulahri medical forfeited out of the finals match to finish second overall.
Russell Benson was the other DelVal place winner as he took home eighth overall at 141 pounds with a 2-3 tournament record.
Fellow MAC members Stevens Institute of Technology and Alvernia University finished first and second, respectively, in the team standings. The Ducks racked up 160.5 points and the Golden Wolves followed with 151.
The 2022 National Championship tournament will take place March 11-12 at U.S. Cellular Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
