ERIE (PA)--- The Delaware Valley women's wrestling team traveled to Gannon University for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship (NCWWC) Northeast Regional on Sunday and Bridgette Schoultz came away with a fifth place finish to advance to the national tournament.
Schoultz started her day in the lone pigtail bout in the 123 pound bracket and came away with a pin in 41 seconds. She then fell to the top seed Grace Jones from Tiffin University in the quarterfinal before battling back through the consolation bracket.
In her first do-or-die bout, Schoultz defeated Carmela Cancelmo with a 10-0 major decision in 2:22. With that win, she met third seed Samantha Parcell from Albion College and lost 16-5, sending her to the fifth place match.
With the winner advancing to nationals and the loser's season coming to an end, Schoultz led from the onset, as she held a 10-0 lead before getting a pin at 3:57 to finish in fifth place.
Kat Bott took the mat in the 155 pound bracket and won an exciting bout in the opening round via fall in 3:26. She then fell to top seed Taylor Cutler from Adrian College in the next round before finishing at 1-2 on the day.
In the 170 pound bracket, Caira Jaynes lost her first bout, dropping her to the consolation bracket. She responded nicely, winning her next match with a pin in 1:04. She then lost her next match to end the day at 1-2.
Ashley Cravo took home eighth place in the 123 pound bracket while Gigi Lee went 0-2 at 155 pounds.
Schoultz will head to Adrian, Michigan for the NCWWC National Championships on March 4th and 5th.
