Women's Basketball Falls To Top-Seed DeSales In Season Finale

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team played its final regular season game of 2021-22 and suffered an 86-48 setback at home to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom front-runner DeSales University.

The Bulldogs have secured the regular season title and number one seed in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament by way of a 15-0 conference record (17-3) overall. The Aggies finished 2-14 in league play (6-14 overall) and are currently in the eighth seed. FDU-Florham is currently the ninth place team and has one more game remaining, at fourth-seed Misericordia on Saturday. If the Devils lose to the Cougars, DelVal will host the #8/#9 first round game, but if FDU wins at Misericordia, the Aggies will travel to play the Devils.

In this game, DeSales built an early 14-2 lead after four minutes of play and never looked back. It outscored the home team, 54-22, in the first half as the Bulldogs shot 21-for-46 from the field and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

The Aggies came out in the second half and scored 13 points in each of the final two quarters while holding the visitors to 19 points in the third and 13 in the fourth.

Senior Lauren Moretti led DelVal with 18 points and added six rebounds and three assists while sophomore Haley Keenan pitched in 13 points and seven boards with three blocks and two steals. Jenna Schiessl came off the bench to contribute eight points, including two treys, with two rebounds and a steal.

DeSales was led by reigning conference player of the year Averi Jordan and her game-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds. Mikaela Reese followed with 19 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and three steals and Lindsey Welsh added 11 points and nine boards.

The Aggies will have the rest of the week off as it prepares for the opening game of the MAC Freedom playoffs which will take place on Monday, February 21 with the location to be determined.
