READING (Pa.) – A small contingent of young Delaware Valley University men's wrestlers competed at the Alvernia Invitational to open their 2022-23 campaign on Saturday afternoon. No team scoring was held at the event.
The Aggies took 14 wrestlers, all first-years or sophomores, to the event and had first-year Gavin Richard lead the way with a fourth place finish at 125 pounds. Richard lost his first collegiate match by a narrow 10-8 decision to Brian McCaw of Muhlenberg. The rookie bounced back with three-straight wins by tech. fall and met McCaw again in the third place match where he dropped a 9-2 decision.
Josh Smith, Maximus Gordon, and Darrale Barrett joined Richard in picking up their first collegiate wins on Saturday.
The men's wrestling team will return to action next Saturday at the annual Racich Rumble hosted by Ursinus.
