Delaware Valley University mourned the loss of 1970 DelVal Athletics Hall of Famer Donald Grim as it learned of his recent passing on Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
Grim, 87, passed away at home on his farm in Pottstown. A 1958 graduate from the National Agriculture College, now Delaware Valley University, Grim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry.
During his four years at the institution, Grim was a key contributor for the football and men's basketball teams. He was one of three honorees enshrined in the DelVal Athletics Hall of Fame in 1970.
For the football team, Grim was a team captain who played center and served as the team's place kicker. In the 1957-58 season, he helped the squad to a then program best, 6-1, record. He was named an All-American offensive lineman and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1958.
Grim also served on the student council for three years and as vice president and president for the class of '58.
In his senior yearbook entry, Grim is described as, "an outstanding personality and leader in the class. His sincerity and honesty have made him one of the most respected students of our college day. Don's enthusiasm and energies have been some of the dynamics behind our class success and distinction. A greater leader, classmate, and friend we could have never picked."
