WILKES-BARRE (PA)--- The Delaware Valley women's basketball team traveled to King's College for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game and came away on the losing end, 74-58.
DelVal (5-10, 1-10) got the scoring started with a bucket from Haley Keenan. King's (12-6, 6-3) then went on a 7-0 run to hold a 7-2 lead with 4:32 left in the first quarter. Keenan would go on to score seven of the next nine points for the Aggies, as her three pointer with 38 seconds left in the first frame brought the deficit to 15-11. Emily Morano and Emily Kriston each knocked down a triple on the Monarchs' last two possessions, as the hosts held a 21-11 advantage after the first.
Lauren Moretti scored the first five points for DelVal in the second quarter, followed by a Jess Williamson layup, as the teams battled evenly for the first half of the second stanza. With the Monarchs leading 33-22, Alli Lindsay started a 7-2 burst for King's with a three pointer. With the Aggies trailing by 16 on their final possession of the first half, Williamson connected from long range to bring the Kings' lead to 13. Sarah Heiskell-Mann then hit one free throw, as King's led 41-27 at the break.
DelVal battled tough to open the third quarter, as Williamson, Keenan and Moretti each made buckets as part of a 6-2 run to bring the deficit to 43-33. King's would expand their lead to 53-35, going on a 10-2 run over a 3:03 span in which they shot 3-of-5 from the field while holding DelVal to 0-for-3. The Aggies would not go away however, as they ended the third on an 8-3 burst, all scored by Moretti, to stay within reach at 56-43 heading to the fourth.
A pair of Scarlett King free throws to start the fourth pulled DelVal to within 11, but the Monarchs wouldn't allow the visitors to get any closer, as they scored the next ten points to hold their largest lead at 66-45 with 6:58 remaining. The Aggies couldn't trim the lead to less than 19 until they ended the game on an 8-0 run, as King's came away with the 74-58 win.
The Monarchs shot 40.9% from the field while the Aggies shot 36.2%, but King's went 10-of-26 from beyond the arc compared to just 4-of-21 for DelVal. King's also only committed 10 turnovers while the Aggies committed 17.
Emily Morano led all scorers with 34 points, including five three pointers. She added nine rebounds.
Lauren Moretti was high scorer for DelVal with 23 points and eight rebounds. She now has 986 points in her career.
Haley Keenan scored 22 to go along with five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Jess Williamson added nine for the Aggies with three rebounds and five assists.
The Aggies are back in action Wednesday, February 2nd for a 6 p.m. home tip-off against Arcadia.
