DelVal Wins Second Straight; Richardson Secures Victory Over Muhlenberg On Senior Night

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's wrestling team honored its two seniors before its final home dual of the season against Muhlenberg College and senior honoree Chris Richardson sealed the 23-14 victory for the home team in the final bout of the evening.

The Aggies improved to 4-2 in duals while the Mules fell to 7-6 in dual action.

The Thursday night match started at 197 pounds with sophomore Isaiah Johnson for DelVal going up against Luca Colestock of Muhlenberg. After a busy first period, Colestock took a 6-2 lead into the second. The action slowed in the second and Colestock maintained a 7-2 lead into the final two minutes. Johnson worked a quick escape to pull within three but, but two more take downs for Colestock and riding time earned him a 12-4 major decision.

The Mules got an upset in the heavyweight bout as Keshon Davila was able to move passed regionally ranked Dan Eckley of DelVal with a 9-5 decision. Davila did well to avoid Eckley's shot attempts and quickly counter to score three takedowns en route to the win.

At 125 pounds, sophomore Joey Lamparelli controlled the Aggies rookie Ryan Kelly en route to a 10-2 major decision to give Muhlenberg an 11-0 lead over DelVal after three bouts.

Sophomore Rashad Stratton got the Aggies going with a spark at 133 pounds. He wasted no time getting inside Ricky Caamano for a takedown. He scored three takedowns in the first and led, 6-2, after one. Stratton scored the only point in the second with an escape and held on throughout the third for an 8-5 decision. The win pulled DelVal within eight, 11-3, heading to 141 pounds.

2019 National Qualifier Russell Benson took on Greg Baum and used a late first period takedown to earn a 2-0 lead after one. Baum got one back in the second, but Russell worked an early escape in the third to regain the two-point lead. Baum scored once more, but Benson held him off down the stretch for a 3-2 decision and three more team points for DelVal.

Junior Mike Rubino made it three in a row for the Aggies with a 3-1 win by decision over Yonbue Goodall-Tanco. Muhlenberg was forced to forfeit at 157 pounds and DelVal took its first lead of the night, 15-11, with three bouts to go.

First-year Adam Coleman dropped his 165-pound match to Ronnie Grevera by way of 4-2 decision and the Mules pulled to within one, 15-14.

Needing to swing momentum back in their favor, the Aggies turned to first-year Cooper Kidd at 174 pounds. Kidd got an early takedown and four near fall points as he got Jack Patti to his back. By the end of the first, Kidd held a 5-2 lead. Kidd had a big second period with an escape and four more near fall points to take a comfortable 10-2 lead. Kidd had bonus points in sight and secured the major decision with a 14-4 win.

Kidd gave DelVal a 19-14 lead heading into the final bout of the day where DelVal turned to senior Chris Richardson. Goodman got the first takedown, but Richardson fired back with an escape and a takedown of his own to take a 3-2 lead after one. Richardson got the lone takedown of the second and extended his advantage to 5-2 going into the third. Riding the energy of the crowd and senior night, Richardson outscored Goodman 7-1 in the third period including a near fall, en route to a 12-3 major decision.

Richardson's four team points secured the team victory for DelVal, 23-14, over Muhlenberg.
