GLENSIDE (PA)--- The Delaware Valley women's basketball put together a big run after falling behind by 16 late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Arcadia came away with the 67-63 win in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action.
The Knights (2-5, 1-2) got on the board first with a pair of free throws from Mara Weaver, but the Aggies (3-6, 0-3) fired back with a 12-5 run over the next 3:14 to take a 12-7 lead. DelVal went 5-for-5 from the field and got treys from Lauren Moretti and Kyarra Williams during the spurt. Moretti hit her second three pointer of the game late in the quarter and DelVal held a 18-12 lead going into the second.
The Aggies shot 7-of-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from deep in the first 10 minutes while forcing nine turnovers.
The teams traded baskets to start the second before the Knights went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 22-22 with just over five minutes left in the half.
Lysette Eloi fed Williams for a layup to put DelVal back up by two, but the rest of the half was all Arcadia. The Knights went on a 10-0 run to close the second, behind four points from Kylie Meredith, to take a 32-24 lead into the break.
The Aggies committed eight turnovers in the second and were held to 3-of-11 shooting from the field.
DelVal pulled to within four three minutes into the second half thanks to a 6-2 run fueled by a pair of layups by Keenan and one from Williams. With three minutes left in the third, Keenan connected from beyond the arc to pull the Aggies to within three, 42-39. DelVal would outscore the Knights 19-16 for the entire third quarter and trailed by five, 48-43, heading into the fourth.
Arcadia extended their lead to nine with four free throws to start the fourth quarter. After a Keenan jumper pulled the Aggies to within seven, the Knights rattled off an 11-2 run to hold their largest lead of the game at 63-47 with 3:20 left. Williams ended the Arcadia run with a layup, which started a huge run by the Aggies. Lauren Moretti converted a steal into a layup, pulling DelVal to within 12. On the next possession, Ajah Kellam finished an old-fashioned three-point play, closing the gap to 63-54 with 1:52 remaining. Keenan followed up with a steal and layup of her own and Williams knocked down one free throw with 36 seconds left to trim the Knights' lead to 63-57. After missing the second foul shot, Keenan corralled the offensive rebound and kicked out to Moretti who knocked down a triple, capping off a 13-0 run to trim the Arcadia lead to 63-60 with 32 seconds remaining. The Knights would knock down four of six free throws down the stretch however, to secure the 67-63 win.
Haley Keenan led the Aggies with 17 points on 7-11 shooting while adding six rebounds and four steals.
Kyarra Williams contributed a career-high 16 points on 6-9 shooting. She added four rebounds and three steals.
Lauren Moretti finished with 13 points on 5-10 shooting and pulled in five rebounds and two steals.
Kaela Stankiewicz was the fourth Aggie in double figures with ten points on 4-8 shooting and had a team-high four assists to go along with three steals. Each of those three marks were good for career-highs for the sophomore.
The Aggies shot 50% compared to just 34.4% for the Knights, but the hosts made up for it by outrebounding DelVal 48-25, including 22 offensive boards.
DelVal will be back in action on Thursday, December 16th as they take on King's College in their first home game of the season at 6 p.m.
