DOYLESTOWN (PA)--- The Delaware Valley women's basketball team outscored the visiting Stockton Ospreys 13-2 in the second quarter to propel themselves to a 53-46 non-conference matchup at James Work Gymnasium.
The Aggies (4-7) got on the board first with a Lauren Moretti jumper early on. Stockton (5-6) answered with a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 lead with 6:20 left in the quarter. Lysette Eloi stopped the Osprey run with a layup and Haley Keenan added on with five consecutive points to cap off a 7-0 Aggie burst, giving the home team a 9-7 advantage. Stockton ended the quarter on another 7-0 run to lead 14-9 after the first.
Both teams started slow in the second quarter, as Kaela Stankiewicz knocked down a jump shot 2:51 into the frame for the first basket. That started a 9-0 Aggie run that lasted the first 7:36 of the quarter, giving the home team the 18-14 cushion. After Stockton scored their only basket of the quarter on a Adriyana Jennings layup, Madyson Smith finished off the half with back-to-back buckets of her own, giving the Aggies a 22-16 lead after 20 minutes.
DelVal held Stockton to 1-of-13 shooting in the second quarter, while forcing six turnovers. The Aggies shot 5-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free throw line in the quarter.
The Ospreys opened up the third quarter with two baskets in the first 52 seconds to pull within two. Lauren Moretti answered with a layup, sparking an 8-1 DelVal run which was capped off by an Ajah Kellam layup to give the Aggies a 30-21 lead. Stockton pulled right back in the game with an 11-3 burst over a 3:33 span to trail 33-32 with 2:17 left in the third. DelVal would lead 38-33 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Aggies grew their lead to 46-37 off a Stankiewicz jumper with 6:14 left to hold a nine point lead, capping an 8-3 run to start the quarter. The Ospreys answered with a 6-0 burst to trim the DelVal lead to three with 3:33 remaining. On the next Aggie possession, Moretti found herself open off a Stankiewicz pass and buried a three pointer, growing the lead back to six. Stockton would only pull to within four, as the Aggies held on for the 53-46 victory.
Haley Keenan finished with her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore added four steals, two blocks and an assist.
Lauren Moretti was second on the team in scoring with 14 points and the senior pulled in eight rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
Kaela Stankiewicz chipped in eight points and three steals, while Madyson Smith finished with six points on 3-of-4 shooting.
The Aggies return back to action for MAC Freedom play on Wednesday, January 5th against Lycoming. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
