The Delaware Valley women's wrestling team competed in their first tournament as a team Sunday at the ESU Warrior Open at East Stroudsburg University.
Bridgette Schoultz competed at 130 pounds for DelVal. She started the day with a tightly contested loss to Ariana Wolkerstorfer from Greensboro College. After trailing 1-0 after one period, Schoultz scored two quick points at the start of the second to take a 2-1 advantage. She held that lead for a majority of the period, but Wolkerstorfer was able to score two points in the final five seconds to come away with the 3-2 decision.
Schoultz responded in the consolation bracket by posting a 10-0 tech fall over Hiram College's Bethany Smith. That win marked the first ever victory for the program during a team tournament. Schoultz would lose via fall in the next round of consolations to finish the day at 1-2.
Caira Jaynes wrestled at 191 pounds and fell in her opening round via 6-0 fall to Gabrielle Mendoza of Ferrum College. In her consolation match, Jaynes took a 4-0 lead in the first 39 seconds over Shola Cascen of East Stroudsburg. The match would head to the second period tied 4-4 and Cascen would end up earning the 13-4 decision, as Jaynes finished the day at 0-2.
May Nuan Ngam competed at 101 pounds and dropped both her matches by a 2-0 fall to round out the day for the Aggies.
