Box Score ANNVILLE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball took on Penn State Harrisburg in the opening game of the Rinso Marquette Invitational at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday. The Aggies came from behind to take a late lead, but was overcome down the stretch as the Nittany Lions advanced with a 73-66 win.
The Aggies (0-2) trailed 17-15 after the first quarter, but used a 5-0 run to start the second to take their first lead of the game. Kaela Stankiewicz set up Haley Keenan for a trey then forced a turnover and sprung Lauren Moretti for a layup to put DelVal ahead, 20-17.
The game was knotted at 28-28 with 4:19 left in the half. From there, Harrisburg outscored the Aggies 12-7 to take a five-point lead into the break, 40-35.
DelVal shot 11-for-31 (35.5%) 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the line while the Nittany Lions were 10-for-24 (41.7%) from the field and 12-of-14 (85.7%) from the line in the first half.
Harrisburg came out in the third and hit a pair of 3-pointers as part of a 9-2 run that expanded the lead to 49-37. The Nittany Lions led by as many as 13 with 2:40 on the third quarter clock before the Aggies went on an 11-0 run to close the third. Ajah Kellam highlighted the spurt with a steal and score plus a free throw as she was fouled on the layup. DelVal forced four turnovers that led to seven points in that stretch. They trailed just 52-50 going into the fourth.
The run continued as Moretti and Taylor Richardson got layups in the paint to put the Aggies ahead, 54-52.
DelVal maintained a two-point lead with under five minutes to play, but got outscored 16-7 down the stretch as Harrisburg advanced to the tournament championship game with a 73-66 win.
The Aggies will play Penn State Schuylkill in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
