Swarthmore Trumps Aggies Softball In Game Two Of Day One

LEESBURG (Fl.) – In the second game of the first day of The Spring Games in Leesburg, Florida, the Delaware Valley University softball team surrendered seven unanswered runs to Swarthmore College as the Garnet ran away with a 10-2 victory after six innings.

Swarthmore was the home team at the neutral site, and it put up three runs on five consecutive singles with two outs in the bottom of the first. Kate Hart drove in a pair of runs with her bases loaded single.

The Aggies got two back in the next half inning as Caitlin Stoner led off with a single and a pair of freshman followed with a double to left by Alexa Jones and a two-RBI single to left center from Anastasia Yocum. That made it a 3-2 game where it remained until the fifth inning.

Kalli Segel led off the bottom of the fifth for the Garnett with a hit by pitch, and was pinch run for by Anika Rajamani who quickly swiped second base. Two batters later, Lucy Decker drover her in with a single to make it a 4-2 game heading into the sixth.

DelVal went down in order in the sixth, and Swarthmore followed with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth for the 10-2 final.

Monismith and Stoner each finished with two hits and Stoner scored a run. Jones was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and Yocum had the two RBIs. Caitlin Pollock pitched 5.1 innings with 10 earned runs allowed on 14 hits.

Decker was good for the Garnet with a 4-for-4 effort and two runs scored at the plate. In the circle, she allowed two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
