DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- Freshman
Evan Widing went 2-1 to earn second place at the Messiah Open on Saturday as the Delaware Valley University men's wrestling team brought three individuals to the open on Saturday.
Widing competed in the 149 pound bracket and was in control of Matt Valli from TCNJ in his first match before Valli had to forfeit with an injury to advance Widing. The rookie followed that up with an 8-3 decision over Scott Obendorfer to advance to the finals. In the last match he faced Kollin Myers of Lockhaven and was bested with an 8-4 decision to finish as the runner up.
The Aggies sent two wrestlers into the 184 pound bracket in
Kyle Hillermeier and
Austin Williams. Both lost their first match and dropped into the consolation bracket where Hillermeier got an 8-1 decision over Jesse Redding before suffering a first period fall to Caleb Edwards of American. Williams lost a pair of decisions, 6-5 and 13-6, to end his afternoon.
DelVal will host Centenary University on Thursday at 7 p.m. for senior night.
