DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University men's wrestling team honored two of it stand-out seniors with a senior day ceremony before its final home match of the season and an eventual setback to visiting Centenary Unviersity, 40-9.
Rob Duxbury and
Kordell Rush were both honored as four-year contributors that have succeeded on and off the mat for the Aggies. With tonight's win, Rush upped his career record to 73-11 and is on the hunt for the second national qualifier bid of his career. Duxbury, who was sidelined by injury this year, has been a two-year captain for the Aggies. In 2019, he placed at regionals, was named to the academic all-MAC team, and earned Academic All-American accolades.
In tonight's match, Rush faced Jacy Jones and the two 133-pounders dualed to a 2-2 tie after two periods. Forty-five seconds into the third, Rush earned an escape to take a one-point lead. Rush controlled a majority of the match and remained in control over the final minute . He earned a 4-2 decision after riding time.Â
At 149 pounds, freshman
Evan Widing took on eighth-ranked Ryan Anderson and fell behind 8-0 early before getting an escape point to make it 8-1 going into the second. Widing could not get much going the rest of the match, and the two combined for only three more points the rest of the way as Anderson went on to an 11-2 major decision.Â
Justin Whitacre and
Jake Nase each suffered first period pins at 157 and 174 pounds, respectively, and
Kyle Hillermeier fell, 11-6, at 184 pounds.Â
In the 197-pound bout,
Austin Williams fell into an 8-2 hole after one period and is gave up an early takedown and four near fall points. Trailing, 8-4, going into the third, Williams fought back with a quick escape, takedown, and four near fall points to make it 10-9 with just 30 seconds left. It looked as if Williams would get the fall, but Justin Hopman got away with an escape and earned the 12-9 decision.Â
Yousseff Ait-Boulahri finished the night on a high not for DelVal with a pin of the much heavier Jayvon Davidson. Youssef needed just over a minute to earn the takedown, and less than 20 seconds later he secured the fall to end the match 40-9 overall.Â
