Softballs Season Comes To An End At Home Against Misericordia

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University softball team's 2018 season drew to a close with a pair of losses to visiting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival Misericordia University, 10-0 and 6-0.

The Cougars finish the regular season 28-10 overall and 11-3 in MAC Freedom play and will be the number two seed heading into the conference playoffs. Defending champion Manhattanville will return as the one-seed while Wilkes University and DeSales Unviersity finish third and fourth, respectively. The Aggies finish the year 11-25 overall and 3-11 in league play.

Misericordia scored 10 runs on 11 hits, five walks, and two wild pitches in the opener while holding DelVal to just one hit in the shutout. Kiersten Pflueger was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored and three other players registered multiple hits.

The Aggies lone hit, and lone baserunner, came from Olivia Monismith.

Game two saw DelVal pick up just one hit again, but it did work two walks in the game. The Cougars scored six runs on nine hits and three walks.

Senior Jamie Stefani, struck out nine batters in the game and broke her own single-season strikeout record in the process as she finished her final season with 125 punch outs, nine better than her previous season-high.

It was a special moment as the Aggies sent off their two seniors in the final games of their careers, as the pitch and catch duo of Stefani and Maddy O'Donohue exited to a rousing ovation in the final frame.
