Softball Downed In A Pair Of 9-1 Games At #12 Manhattanville

PURCHASE (Ny.) -- The nationally ranked, and three-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Champion Manhattanville Valiants posted a pair of 9-1 victories over visiting Delaware Valley University in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies fell to 6-10 and 2-4 in league play  while the Valiants remained perfect at 16-0 and 6-0.

After DelVal stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first, Manhattanville put up six runs on five hits and one error in the bottom of the frame to take an early 6-0 lead. Alexis Ventarola picked up the big knock in the frame with a bases clearing triple for three RBIs.

The Aggies picked up one earned run in the third after an error, but the Valiants scored three more times to conclude the game at 6-1 after six innings. DelVal got just two hits in the game from Julie Burns and Caitlin Stoner. Jamie Stefani went the distance in the circle and gave up nine runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with six strikeouts.

Alycia Feeney earned the win for the Valiants to improve to 6-0 after pitching a complete game and allowing two hits with five punch outs. Brooke Fanson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with a run driven in and Jordan Boyd went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

In game two, Manhattanville put up three runs in the first, second, and third frames to take a 9-0 lead after three. Brooke Fanson hit a three-run homer to right center in the bottom of the third for the 9-0 lead.

DelVal managed just two hits in this game as well, but one off the bat of freshman Faith Sleva traveled over the fence for her second home run in three games and the 9-1 final. Julie Burns suffered the loss in the circle after 2.2 innings of work and eight hits allowed.

Giovanna Liggett led the Valiants with a 3-for-3 effort, two RBIs, and one run scored and Aarin Hartenstein went the distance in the circle while striking out five for the win.
