Women's Hoops Outlasted By Penn State Berks At Home

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team erased an 11-point deficit and held the lead with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but it was visiting Penn State Berks that outlasted the home team down the stretch to escape with a 65-60 non-conference victory.

The Aggies (1-8) fell behind 6-2 in the early going but went on a 14-2 run as they hit four 3-pointers, including two from Lauren Moretti, in a three minute span to go up by eight, 16-8. The Lions (3-5) scored the final 10 points of the first quarter to take a two-point lead into the second. Katie Armstrong and Elise Paskowski each had four points in the spurt.

The run continued as Penn State started the second with an 11 of the first 14 points to extend its lead to 29-19 with seven minutes left in the half. It maintained the 10-point lead until Moretti connected on another trey to close the half and make it a 37-30 game at the break.

Moretti hit back-to-back treys to start the second half and cap an 8-0 DelVal run that put it back on top, 38-37. The teams traded baskets and the Aggies found themselves down one with under four minutes to play when Moretti hit another big trey to put the team ahead, 45-43.

The Nittany Lions countered with the next five points to reclaim the lead, but moments later with 35 ticks left in the third, Jordan Hyman set up Sarah Wills to knot the game at 49-49.  An Erin Buckman free throw gave DelVal a one-point lead going into the fourth.

Halfway through the fourth quarter, Nicole Kopcik buried a three-ball that put Penn State on top, 56-55, and it continued to lead, 60-56, with 3:20 left in regulation.

Wills pulled the Aggies within one with a trey and Hyman hit one-of-two free throws to tie the game with under two minutes to play, 60-60.

The Nittany Lions went 5-for-6 down the stretch and DelVal went 0-for-3 from the field, including a pair of open looks, and 0-for-2 from the line as Penn State walked away with the five point win.

The Aggies finished the game 3-for-12 from the line compared to 11-for-21 from the visitors, and their bench was outscored, 16-1. The Lions also held a 55-44 advantage on the glass.

DelVal shot 31.5% from deep as Moretti connected on seven treys and led all players in the game with 26 points to go with nine rebounds and three steals. Wills followed with 16 points and Glenn notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
