Rush Defends Fall Brawl Title, Two Others Finish Runner-Up

COLLEGEVILLE (Pa.) – Senior Kordell Rush successfully defended his title and two others wrestlers finished runner-up to highlight the day for the Delaware Valley University wrestling team at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl tournament on Saturday.

Rush improved to 7-0 on the year as he won all four of his matches to claim top honors in the 133-pound bracket. He began his run with a first period pin before battling Tyler Hunt to a hard-fought, 7-6, double overtime triumph. He used a 4-0 decision over Josh McLaughlin of Elizabethtown to advance to the finals where he beat Chris Cook from Worcester Polytechnic, 6-4. It is the second-straight first place finish at the Fall Brawl for Rush who came into the weekend ranked number two in all of Division III.

Freshman Evan Widing and senior Nick Bord earned runner-up finishes at 149 and 184 pounds, respectively. Widing, a freshman, upped his season record to 5-2 with three wins and one loss on Saturday. He began his day with an 11-5 decision and the defeated Nick Gonzalez of Elizabethtown, 12-5, to advance to the semi-finals. Facing Gabe May of Thaddeus Stevens, Widing earned his third pin of the year at 4:50 to move into the finals. He took on Shawn Marchesano of host Ursinus and dropped a 4-0 decision to end the day.

Bord began his run with a 4-0 decision over Dayne Ross of Elizabethtown and then used an 8-3 decision to get by Adam March of Worcester Polytechnic. In the semi's, Bord cruised to a 14-4 major decision to advance to the finals. With just seconds left in the first period, Bord tried to hold off David Key, but the ref saw shoulders on the mat and Key earned the fall for the 184-pound title.

The Aggies will return to action with their first home contest of the season next Saturday. The team will welcome Wilkes University and York College in for a tri-match beginning at 4:30 p.m.
