DelVal Wrestling Opens 2019-20 Campaign At Lyco Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University wrestling team opened its 2019-20 campaign at the Lycoming College invitational, but no team scoring was held at the event.

Senior Kordell Rush, who came into the season ranked number two in Division III at 133 pounds, got his campaign off to a strong start as he went 3-0 with two pins and a major decision. In his first match against Michael Smith of Oneonta State he earned a 13-0 win, followed by first period pins against Christopher Wig of Lycoming and Logan Fox of York.

Sophomore transfer, Youssef Ait Boulahri and junior Dustin Childs also went 3-0 on the day. Childs wrestled at 149 pounds and started his day with a 19-0 tech. fall over Gus La Torre of Penn College. He then defeated Kwan Wills of Oneonta State, 12-5, before taking a major decision over Vincent Catania of Washington and Jefferson, 15-1.

Ait Boulahri competed in the heavyweight bracket and took a 4-2 decision in his first match against Thomas Tabatneck of York College. He needed just 1:20 to pin his opponent, Kyle Beard of Washington and Jefferson, in his second match. To complete his perfect day, he took a 13-8 decision over Julian Alberto of York.

Senior Rob Duxbury went 1-2 at 157 pounds. He earned a major decision over Josiah McClarren of Lycoming, 13-5, but lost a 6-5 decision and an 11-0 major decision to Trevor Corl of Lycoming. Sophomore Kyle Hillermeier got two wins in his three matches at 184 pounds. Both of his victories were first period pins, first over Kevin Jorgensen of Oneonta State and then against Jonathan Vough from Alvernia.

Freshman Evan Widing went 2-1 in his first collegiate tournament as he started his day with a first period pin of Brock Drahus from Alvernia. He then needed just 16 seconds to get Kwan Wills of Oneonta to his back for another fall before getting pinned by Michael Fouts of York.
