Women's Hoops Drops Third Straight At Manhattanville

PURCHASE (Ny.) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team traveled to Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon, but dropped its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest, 74-50.

The Valiants improved to 14-4 overall and 5-3 in MAC Freedom play while the Aggies slid to 8-11 and 2-6.

Manhattanville began the game on a 7-0 run through the first four minutes, but DelVal battled back to outscore the Valiants 11-4 the rest of the stanza and head to the second knotted up at 11-11. Skedzielewski had six points in the quarter to lead the Aggies.

Jess Larosa-Nichols hit a trey to spark another 7-0 sput by Manhattanville to start the second. DelVal fired back with a pair of treys from Ashley Smink and Dom Moser to pull within one with 6:26 left in the half.

The Valiants outscored the Aggies, 18-9, the rest of the half to take a 34-26 lead into the locker room. DelVal shot 7-for-29 from the field including 3-for-12 from deep compared to 12-of-31 and 4-of-11 shooting by the home team through the first 20 minutes.

Manhattanville got hot in the second half and shot over 50-percent from the field and over 40-percent from 3-point land.

The Aggies pulled to within four of the lead after Smink fed Lauren Moretti for a layup before getting to the rim herself for two points to make it a 38-34 game with 4:40 remaining in the third quarter. The Valiants went on to outscore DelVal 14-4 the remainder of the stanza to take a 52-38 lead into the fourth.

The Aggies got the first basket of the fourth quarter when Emily Kutskel fed Moser for layup, but that's the closest DelVal got the rest of the way. Manhattanville won the fourth quarter by outscoring the Aggies 22-12 to claim the 74-50 MAC Freedom victory.

Moser led the team with 19 points in the game followed by Skedzielewski and Smink who each had eight. Skedzielewski led the squad on the glass with six boards, but fouled out late in the game. Moretti dished out four assists but managed just two points. DelVal finished the game shooting 17-for-57 (29.8%) from the field and 3-for-17 (17.6%) from behind-the-arc.
