Women's Basketball Downed By No. 22 DeSales At Home

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team outscored number 22 DeSales University in the second half, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs left with an 88-63 road Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

DeSales is currently ranked 22nd in the country in two separate national polls and it improved its record to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Aggies fell to 7-8 and 1-3.

The Bulldogs made 11-of-17 (64.7%) of their field goals in the first quarter and held DelVal to 5-of-14 (35.7%) shooting to take a 33-13 lead after one. Moser hit two treys in the stanza and led the Aggies with eight points while the Bulldogs had seven different players score including Samantha Shinkus who had nine to lead the way.

DeSales continued the hot shooting through the second quarter and eventually took its largest lead, 57-28, into the halftime locker room. The Bulldogs ended the half shooting 55.3-percent (21-for-38) from the field and made four treys. Moser had 13 points at the break as the Aggies shot 11-for-32 (34.4%) from the field as a team.

The tables turned in the third quarter as DelVal held DeSales to just 4-of-22 (18.2%) shooting from the field and connected on 6-of-13 (46.2%) of its own field goals. Danielle Skedzielewski scored seven in the quarter and Ashley Smink pitched in five to make it a 68-46 game going into the fourth.

The Bulldogs outscored the Aggies, 20-17 in the final 10 minutes to secure its fourth straight MAC Freedom victory.

Moser scored a game-high 22 points for DelVal and added five assists and four rebounds. Smink finished with 15 points, five steals, and four assists and Skedzielewski led the team with eight rebounds and added nine points. Sarah Wills finished with seven points.

Four different players reached double-digit scoring for DeSales including Shinkus who finished with a team-high 19 points. Bridget Walsh followed with 17 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Morgan Birmelin scored 12 points and added 12 assists and seven steals.

The Aggies are back in action on Wednesday when they head to FDU-Florham for another MAC Freedom showdown at 8 p.m.
