DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University head coach
Jim Wertman has announced that former local state champion and Division I national qualifier
Rick Rappo has joined the Aggie coaching staff as an assistant.
Rappo was a standout at Council Rock South High School as he amassed a 121-22 record, including a combined 85-3 mark over his final two years. He went 43-2 and captured the 2004 Pennsylvania State championship in the 103-pound weight class. The next year, Rappo wrestled at 112 pounds and won his first 42 matches before falling in the state finals.
Rappo continued his wrestling career at the University of Pennsylvania where he was a three-year starter for the Division I Quakers. He earned a trip to the NCAA Championships on a pair of occasions. Rappo graduated from Penn in 2009 and completed his Master's from Arizona State University in 2017.
Rappo went back to Council Rock South to serve as an assistant coach in 2010 and then followed with a seven-year stint as an assistant at The Hill School.
"When we launched the search for a new assistant coach, I wanted to find a leader with the knowledge to help take us to the next level and I am confident we have found that in Rick," Wertman, who is in his first year as DelVal head coach, said. "Being from southeastern Pennsylvania, he will be a great asset to our recruiting, as he has strong ties to not only the wrestling community in the area, but also the entire state. I am extremely excited to have Rick on our staff and look forward to many years of success with him."
