WILKES-BARRE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University wrestling team saw two student-athletes advance to the quarterfinals, and four others notch a win, at the 86th annual Wilkes Open Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.
Nine Aggies hit the mat at their respective weight class, as they completed their final match of 2018. DelVal finished 16
th out of 32 teams that scored points with a total of 21 points. Division I Rutgers University earned the title with 129 points.
Kordell Rush competed at 133 pounds and won his first match with an 8-0 major decision. He fell in his second match, 8-3, but bounced-back with two straight triumphs in the consolation bracket. He first earned an 18-0 tech. fall, and then defeated the Colonels' Brock Horton, 12-3. Rush dropped his final match, 11-4, to take sixth place.
Russell Benson hit the mat at 141 pounds and defeated Robert Dinger of TCNJ, 17-12. He then lost to Kyle Medrow from Wilkes, 8-1. In his third bout of the day, he took a 10-7 decision from Sal Jones of Finger Lakes Prep, but fell to Jarred Papcsy, 8-4, to end his day.
Chris Richardson advanced to the quarterfinals in the 157-pound bracket after a first-round bye and a 5-4 decision over Allen Kokilananda from Wilkes. In the quarterfinals, he was pinned by Brian Meyer of Division I Lehigh.
Kyle Hillermeier won a pair of matches at 174 pounds, and
Nick Bord took one-of-three matches at 184 pounds.
