DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team erased a 10-point second half deficit and held on down the stretch to secure a 75-72 non-conference victory against visiting Penn State Abington.
The Aggies improved to one game above .500 at 5-4 overall and the Nittany Lions approved to 5-2.
After a deadlocked first quarter, Abington took charge in the second and outscored DelVal 22-14 in the second quarter to take an eight point, 33-25, lead into the locker room at halftime. Mikayla Noel-Cohen and Laquana Nagbe combined for 14 of the 22 points as the Lions shot 11-for-16 (68.8%) from the field.
The Aggies shot just 21.2-percent (7-for-33) in the first half and
Dom Moser led the way with 10 points and six rebounds.
DelVal used a 14-8 run in the second half to pull even with Penn State Abington, 55-55, with five minutes left in regulation. With the game tied at 59 apiece,
Danielle Skedzielewski was fouled and hit 1-of-2 from the line, but
Amber Grohowski secured the offensive board and laid it back in to give the Aggies a three-point, 72-69, lead that they would not relinquish.
Down the stretch, DelVal hit 9-of-13 free throws and the Lions' last minute heave was off-target at the buzzer.
Dom Moser finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go with two assists and Grohowski netted her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 boards. Skedzielewski finished with 19 points, all in the second half and added five rebounds.
Penn State Abington placed five players in double-figure scoring led by 16 points from Shayna Rodriguez who also grabbed eight rebounds. Noel-Cohen recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards and Lacy MacLachlin dropped in 15 points.
The Aggies will wrap up the 2018 portion of their season at the Greyhound Classic hosted by Moravian College beginning on December 30. DelVal will take on the host Greyhounds in the first round at 2 p.m.
