Rush Takes Title At Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE (PA) – Junior Kordell Rush took first place in the 133-pound bracket to highlight Delaware Valley University wrestling's showing at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the event.

Rush, a 2018 national qualifier, won five consecutive matches to improve his record to 7-0 on the season and win his first title at the Fall Brawl. Rush came into today nationally ranked 10th by Intermat Wrestling and the senior began his day with a 3-0 decision over Derek Gullota of host Ursinus. After a 16-3 major decision in round two, Rush made quick work of Robert Leek from Liberty University as he registered a fall at 52 seconds into the second period to reach the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Rush met his teammate Russell Benson and the two battled for a spot in the finals of the 133-pound bracket. Rush got the better of Benson with a 6-3 decision and went on to beat Jake Giordano of TCNJ with a 4-2 decision.

Benson earned third place in the bracket with an 11-9 decision over Connor Murphy, also from TCNJ.

At 125-pounds, Nic DeRosa had a first round bye before getting past Jeremy Berger of Johns Hopkins with a 14-5 major decision. DeRosa fell in the next round to Brandon Greyson of Ursinus, 12-6.

Chris Richardson represented the Aggies at 157-pounds and got a first period pin in his first match and took a 10-4 decision in his second. Eventual champion, Tyler Marsh, pinned Richardson in the semi-final match and Richardson lost by major decision in the consolation match.

Senior Anthony Snyder pinned Carter Ellis of Liberty University in the second period and then took a 9-7 decision in his next match before losing by a 9-1 major decision to Zach Goranson of Ursinus.

Anthony Costanza won his first match at 174-pounds, but dropped his second. He fell into the consolation bracket where he four straight matches to earn third place. His last three wins in the tournament all game by pin fall, including his last pin 46 seconds into the first period to take third place.
