WILLIAMSPORT (PA) – In a rematch of last season's opener, Delaware Valley University and Penn College of Technology met on the mat again to start the 2018-19 season and the result was the same as a year ago with the Aggies coming out on top in a 29-20 decision.
DelVal took an early 6-0 lead after a forfeit at 125 pounds and doubled its lead when freshman
Russell Benson earned his first collegiate win with a pin 1:10 into the second period.
2018 national qualifier
Kordell Rush followed with a 17-0 technical fall of Gavin Link to open up a 17-0 Aggies lead. Fellow team captain
Rob Duxbury was also strong in his match and earned a 6-2 decision over Jesse Walker to expand the lead to 20-0.
Sophomore
Chris Richardson kept the Aggies rolling with a pin of Jon Martinez in the first period. Richardson needed just 1:36 to take the 157 pound weight match and earn six more points for his team.
The Wildcats fought back at 165 and 174 pounds with a pin and a technical fall to cut their deficit to 26-11.
DelVal bounced-back with a strong performance from freshman
Kyle Hillermeier as he earned his first collegiate win with an 8-3 decision to make the score 29-11, and ultimately seal the match for the Aggies.
