CORTLAND (NY) – SUNY Cortland won six of the first seven weight classes, en route to a 32-10 victory over visiting Delaware Valley University on Friday evening.

The Red Dragons improved to 8-6 in dual meets while the Aggies fell to 5-7. The task will not get any easier on Saturday morning when DelVal battles third-ranked Ithaca College at 11 a.m.

Cortland picked up nine points in the first two weights thanks to an 18-6 major decision by Greg Chery at 157 pounds and a technical fall triumph by ninth-ranked Zack Zupan at 165.

DelVal got on the board at 174 as Eliias Vega used a first-period takedown, a third period escape and riding time to notch a 4-1 decision over Josh Farrar. However, the Red Dragons responded with two pins, a technical fall and a decision in the next four weights for a 29-3 lead. The decision was at heavyweight where the Aggies' Marc Isaac led 1-0 going into the third before an escape and a late takedown resulted in a 3-1 win for Cortland's Zach Gifford.

Returning national qualifiers Brenden Velez and Tim Ambacher picked up DelVal's remaining points at 133 and 141 pounds respectively. Velez, a two-time NCAA participant, escaped 24 seconds into the second period for a 1-0 lead. A neutral start took place in the third and Velez notched a takedown with 34 seconds to go for a 3-0 win over Mat Bradice.

Ambacher, a 2017 national qualifier who is ranked 10^th in the d3wrestle.com poll, built a 5-0 lead after one and increased it to 12-0 after the second period. Ambacher then got a takedown in the third and had riding time before a late escape by Dustin Harris made it a 15-1 final.
