COLLEGEVILLE (PA) – Nationally-ranked Tim
Ambacher finished in second place in the 141-pound weight class to highlight Delaware Valley University's showing at the
Ursinus College Fall Brawl. Team scoring was not held at the event.
Ambacher, a 2017 national qualifier and ranked seventh in this season's first poll, opened with three wins to reach the finals. The senior opened with a 15-6 major decision over Daniel Bliss (
Ursinus) and followed with a 130 major over Lucas Escobar (Johns Hopkins) and a 15-8 decision over Wyatt Long of Division I Navy.
Ambacher then faced another Midshipmen in the finals, Kyle
Trybus, and was edged by a 5-3 score.
Sophomore
Kordell Rush also placed at the Fall Brawl as he took fourth at 133 pounds. Freshman Anthony
Costanza also reached the consolation finals at 174 pounds, but he could not wrestle in the match due to a six-match in one day limit rule that was enacted this year. As a result,
Costanza placed fourth.
For Rush, he earned a trio of major decisions to reach the championship finals. All the majors were shutouts as he won 10-0 over Anthony
Monahan (Apprentice), 8-0 over Connor Murphy (
TCNJ) and 9-0 over Ray
Caideraio (
Ursinus). In the semifinals, Rush dropped a 6-2 decision to Stephen
Jendritz (Worcester Poly), but advanced right to the consolation finals due to the match limit rule. There, he lost, 11-5, to
Ryker Eckenberger (McDaniel).
Costanza dropped his first match of Saturday, but bounced back with five straight victories in the consolation bracket. He pinned Daniel
Jerrens (Elizabethtown) in 83 seconds and followed with a 12-9 triumph over Tyler Wilson (Worcester Poly).
Costanza then faced teammate
Brandon Rudy and had an 8-6 triumph. He added an 8-3 win over Matt O'Donnell (Camden County) and a 7-0 blanking of William Gilliam (Johns Hopkins) to reach the consolation finals and his match limit.
Rob
Duxbury (149) had a strong showing at the tournament thanks to a pair of wins in the championship bracket and one in the consolation bracket. Heavyweight Oscar Daniels also won three contests with one in the championship bracket and two in consolations.
Rudy had two wins in consolations before falling to
Costanza. Parker Velez (125),
