DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Ithaca College won eight of the 10 weight classes as the fourth-ranked Bombers notched a 33-6 decision over host Delaware Valley University on Saturday.
Ithaca improved to 7-2 in dual meets while the Aggies fell to 7-7.
DelVal's milestone of the day came in the final bout as defending national champion and top-ranked
Zach Roseberry ran his winning streak to 50, a run that dates back to November of 2015, as he downed Jake O'Brien, 10-3. O'Brien was ranked 10
th at heavyweight in the
d3wrestle.com poll and that match was scoreless after the opening period. Roseberry then notched two takedowns and an escape and got another point on a stall by O'Brien for a 6-1 lead after two periods. A takedown, another point on a stall and riding time led to the seven-point win.
Roseberry improved his season record to 30-0 and he also moved into sole possession of second place on the Aggies' all-time list with 123 victories (123-12). He is six shy of tying Kyle Bilquist '10 for the top mark.
The Bombers, with six nationally-ranked wrestlers in their lineup, took the first four weights for a 16-0 lead. At 125, 10
th-ranked Jimmy Kaishian took on returning national qualifier
Brenden Velez and notched an 11-3 major decision. Ferdinand Mase followed with a 6-0 decision over
Tucker Velez at 133.
The battle at 141 pounds featured DelVal's
Tim Ambacher (ranked third) and Ithaca's Nick Wahba (ranked 10
th). After a scoreless first, Wahba picked up three of the five points in the second period for the 3-2 advantage. However, Wahba received his second stalling early in the third, giving Ambacher a point. Ambacher then escaped Wahba's grasp with 1:31 to go for a 4-3 lead. It stayed that way until Wahba notched a takedown with just three seconds left for a 5-4 win.
Ithaca's Sammy Schneider received a forfeit win at 149. The Aggies' then got their first points of the day as
Sekou Harris used a strong third period for an 8-3 decision over Demitri D'Orsaneo. The match was tied at 2-2 heading into the final two minutes when Harris picked up an escape and two takedowns to go along with riding time for his 13
th win of the year.
Ithaca got its remaining points on a 22-5 technical fall by fourth-ranked Nick Velez over
Brandon Rudy at 165, an 11-4 decision by Jason White over
Anthony Snyder at 174, a 6-4 decision by Jake Ashcraft over
Ben Schweiger at 184 and a forfeit win by third-ranked Carlos Toribio at 197.
