NEW YORK (NY) – Delaware Valley University picked up points in 17 of the 20 contests in Saturday afternoon's tri-match as the Aggies cruised to victories over host Hunter College (40-7) and College of Mount Saint Vincent (50-6).
The two wins improved DelVal to 7-5 on the season. Hunter fell to 1-7 with its loss to the Aggies while Mount Saint Vincent dropped to 1-10.
DelVal notched one pin, two technical falls, two decisions and three forfeits in the victory over the host Hawks.
Brenden Velez needed less than two minutes in the opening weight as the 125-pounder had three near falls before registering a 16-0, technical fall triumph over Hamad Amir.

Tim Ambacher (141),
Rob Duxbury and
Sekou Harris earned back-to-back decisions at 149 and 157 pounds respectively to up the team lead to 23-0. Duxbury has a near fall in the first period, en route to a 10-5 triumph over John Sherlock. Harris needed overtime before a takedown gave him a 6-4 victory over William Heine.
Brandon Rudy (165) and
Ben Schweiger (174) upped the advantage to 34-0. Rudy used a trio of near falls to eventually earn an 18-2, technical fall triumph over Gabriel Calderon. Schweiger, ranked seventh nationally in his weight class, notched his 11
th pin of the season as he dropped Nicholas Brutus midway through the second period.
Hunter got its lone points with a major decision at 184 and a decision at 197. Defending national champion and top-ranked heavyweight
Zach Roseberry picked up the final six for DelVal with a forfeit.
The match with Mount Saint Vincent began at 157 pounds and Harris had little problem in a 12-0 major decision over Patrick Polintan. Rudy, Schweiger, Steve Hordvath and
David Furmato were then each award forfeit wins to give the Aggies a 28-0 lead.
Roseberry built a 10-2 lead in the opening period before he pinned Justin Pronovost in just 1:44. That victory improved the senior to 25-0 on the season and upped his winning streak to 45 consecutive matches. Roseberry also moved into fifth place on the all-time victory list with 118 (118-12) and he is now just 11 shy of tying the school record.
Brenden Velez, a 2016 national qualifier, made it 40-0 as he pinned Jakob Cala 36 seconds into the second period. After the Dolphins got a pin of their own at 133, Ambacher remained undefeated against Division III wrestlers this season with a 13-1 major decision over Michael Foca. Duxbury picked up a forfeit win for the 50-6 final.
DelVal will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at Messiah College next Saturday, January 21.
