Huge Second Half Sparks 64-50 Win For DelVal Women Over Misericordia

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team made it five straight victories at James Work Gymnasium with a 64-50 win over Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest on Wednesday evening.

The Aggies got back to the .500 mark at 11-11 overall. DelVal is tied for third in the MAC Freedom with a 7-4 record. The Aggies have three games remaining in the regular season, two at home. The top four teams qualify for the conference tournament. The Cougars dropped to 6-16 with a 2-9 conference mark.

Misericordia tallied the first four points of the contest but Delaware Valley came back with a 16-6 run to lead 16-10 with 1:30 left in the opening quarter. Senior Kelsey Kilpatrick and junior Sam Foy had six points apiece and freshman Brianna Rivello and senior Eireann Anastasi each added two. The Cougars had the next six to tie the score at 16 with 8:29 to go in the second. The score was 23-23 at the intermission. Kilpatrick paced all scorers in the half with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

The two squads were deadlocked at 26 in the third quarter (7:46) before the Aggies took over the contest with a massive 17-3 run to end the frame. Anastasi led the charge with seven points followed by freshman Danielle Skedzielewski (six), Kilpatrick (two), Foy (1) and freshman Morgan Mitchell (1). The DelVal surge continued in the fourth quarter with the Aggies registering seven of the first 10 points. Foy had four and Skedzielewski produced three. When all was said and done, the Aggies had a 24-6 stretch from 7:22 in the third quarter to 6:33 in the fourth. The closest that Misericordia got the rest of the way was 10 points (54-44). Anastasi poured in 17 points in the second half.

Anastasi had her 11th 20-point game of the campaign and was just two assists short of a triple-double. She finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Kilpatrick (15), Skedzielewski (12) and Foy (11) all ended the game in double figures. Foy also collected eight rebounds and five blocks. Skedzielewski and Rivello each totaled six boards.

Japriya Carroll led Misericordia with 12 points and eight rebounds. Rachel Carmody corralled 13 rebounds and scored eight points. Nikki Baro deposited seven points and grabbed five rebounds. Leanne Forsyth recorded six points, six boards and six assists.

DelVal hosts Wilkes University in another conference game on Saturday, February 13 (1:00 p.m.).
